The largest city on the Mississippi River, Memphis bills itself as both the "Birthplace of Rock" and "Home of the Blues." With such a rich musical heritage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Elvis Presley chose to live in Memphis during his later years.
Shop till you drop at Covington's Historic Square and Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like National Civil Rights Museum - Lorraine Motel and Collierville TN Historic District. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Sun Studio, take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Peter Catholic Church, explore the world behind art at Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art, and make a trip to Graceland.

New York City to Memphis is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from New York City to Memphis. Traveling from New York City in May, things will get a bit warmer in Memphis: highs are around 80°F and lows about 61°F. In May, daytime highs in Chattanooga are 81°F, while nighttime lows are 59°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 20th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Pigeon Forge.
