The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Start off your visit on the 10th (Mon): take an in-depth tour of Swain County Heritage Museum, then take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, and then get engrossed in the history at Mountain Farm Museum. On your second day here, take in the awesome beauty at Waterrock Knob, admire the sheer force of Soco Falls, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Cataloochee Valley.
