Florida’s mecca of fun in the sun, the lively tropical metropolis of Miami is one of the world’s top vacation spots.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Shark Valley Visitor Center and Boat Tours & Water Sports. You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and Art Deco Historic District. Get out of town with these interesting Miami side-trips: Fort Lauderdale Beach (in Fort Lauderdale), Hollywood Beach (in Hollywood) and Everglades National Park (Nike Missile Site HM-69 & Gumbo Limbo Trail). Richmond to Miami is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Traveling from Richmond in February, things will get much warmer in Miami: highs are around 79°F and lows about 65°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Mon) early enough to catch the flight to Key West.

Key West — 4 nights

Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
Take a break from the city and head to Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory and Fishing Charters & Tours. Explore hidden gems such as Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center and Key West Cemetery. Spend the 14th (Tue) exploring nature at Dry Tortugas National Park. The adventure continues: examine the collection at The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, contemplate the long history of Curry Mansion Inn, admire the natural beauty at Key West Garden Club, and explore and take pictures at Fort Zachary Taylor.

Fly from Miami to Key West in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In February in Key West, expect temperatures between 78°F during the day and 68°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Fri) to allow time to drive to Marathon.

Marathon — 4 nights

A tiny city just 16 km (10 mi) long, Marathon is spread across several islands in the middle of the Florida Keys.
Attractions like Bahia Honda State Park and Dolphin Research Center make great kid-friendly stops. Escape the urban bustle at Sombrero Beach and Sunset Park Beach. Change things up with a short trip to Everglades National Park in Florida City (about 1h 10 min away). Next up on the itinerary: observe the fascinating underwater world at Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters, soothe aching muscles at some of the top local wellness centers, identify plant and animal life at The Turtle Hospital, and see what you can catch with a fishing tour.

Islamorada — 1 night

Islamorada, long recognized as one of the world's top spots for sport fishing, encompasses six islands in the Florida Keys.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Wed): immerse yourself in nature at Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park, cast your line with Takedown Charters, and then discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

Key Largo — 2 nights

The northernmost island of the Florida Keys, Key Largo provides stunning scenery, a number of watersports opportunities, and plenty of areas to relax on vacation.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Thu): identify plant and animal life at Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, take a tour of African Queen Canal Cruise, then admire the majestic nature at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and finally head outdoors with Outdoor Activities. Key Largo is just a short distance from Islamorada. Traveling from Islamorada in February, expect little chillier with lows of 62°F in Key Largo. Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Fri) early enough to catch the flight back home.
