Although Badlands National Park's name might not be the most inviting, its landscape of pinnacles, eroded buttes, spires, and an expansive, pristine mixed-grass prairie remain enticing.
Kick off your visit on the 12th (Sun): cruise along Loop Road, take in the dramatic natural features at Badlands Wall, then explore the striking landscape of Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, and finally explore the striking landscape at Big Badlands Overlook.

Charleston to Badlands National Park is an approximately 8.5-hour combination of flight and taxi. You can also drive; or take a bus. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is usually a -2 hour difference. A genuine cowboy city, Cody is famous for its nightly rodeos and its proximity to the protected wilderness areas of the world's first national park, now designated as one of the country's World Heritage Sites.
Kick off your visit on the 14th (Tue): steep yourself in history at Old Trail Town, then take an in-depth tour of Buffalo Bill Center of the West, and then examine the collection at Cody Dug Up Gun Museum.
