Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Bring the kids along to Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center and Alaska Native Heritage Center. There's much more to do: get to know the fascinating history of Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, don't miss a visit to Fresh Spring Water at Mile 109, look for all kinds of wild species at Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary, and explore the striking landscape at Beluga Point.

Minneapolis to Anchorage is an approximately 7.5-hour combination of flight and car. You can also drive. The time zone changes from Central Standard Time to Alaska Standard Time, which is usually a -3 hour difference. Traveling from Minneapolis in June, things will get slightly colder in Anchorage: highs are around 66°F and lows about 51°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Seward.

For most visitors to this part of the world, the wild part of Alaska starts at Seward, a small port city that takes advantage of the region's natural beauty.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Alaska SeaLife Center and Exit Glacier. Next up on the itinerary: paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, explore the striking landscape of Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor Center, explore the activities along Resurrection Bay, and get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

The narrow city of Ketchikan clings to the bluffs that form Revillagigedo Island's southwestern shore.
