Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Visiting Carmel City Beach/Carmel River Beach and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park will get you outdoors. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Point Lobos State Reserve and Pfeiffer State Beach. There's lots more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Asilomar State Beach, take a memorable drive along Seventeen Mile Drive, take in the architecture and atmosphere at San Carlos Cathedral, and look for gifts at The Cheese Shop.

Getting from San Francisco to Carmel by car takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of flight and taxi; or take a bus. You'll explore and learn at The Mob Museum and Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Valley of Fire State Park and The Neon Museum. There's still lots to do: explore the stunning scenery at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, shop like a local with The Strip, ponder the design of Bellagio Fountains, and see the interesting displays at Pinball Hall of Fame.

Traveling by combination of taxi and flight from Carmel to Las Vegas takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Carmel in March: highs in Las Vegas hover around 27°C, while lows dip to 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Sun) to allow time to travel to Los Angeles.
