Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. On the 13th (Fri), look for gifts at The Cheese Shop, then admire the majestic nature at Point Lobos, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Pfeiffer State Beach. Divided into neighborhoods with distinct characters and cultural heritages, San Diego sits just north of the Mexican border and offers visitors a blend of tourist attractions, including a lively nightlife, diverse cuisine, and a thriving musical scene.
Relax by the water at La Jolla Cove and Children's Pool. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Mission Beach Park, see the interesting displays at USS Midway Museum, take in nature's colorful creations at Botanical Building and Lily Pond, and meet the residents at San Diego Zoo.

You can fly from Carmel to San Diego in 4.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Carmel in July: high temperatures in San Diego hover around 77°F and lows are around 68°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Santa Monica.

A famed resort town since the early 20th century, Santa Monica sits on the picturesque Santa Monica Bay, bordered on three sides by the city of Los Angeles.
Get out of town with these interesting Santa Monica side-trips: Hermosa Beach Pier (in Hermosa Beach), Wine Tours & Tastings (in Santa Barbara) and Six Flags Magic Mountain (in Santa Clarita).
