Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Kick off your visit on the 20th (Sun): stop by Honeyville, relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, and then see the interesting displays at Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad & Museum.

Canon City

Part of Colorado's Royal Gorge Region, Cañon City straddles the Arkansas River.
Kick off your visit on the 30th (Wed): tour in style with a train tour and then let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour. Keep things going the next day: whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks.

Known as a ski resort town, Aspen's history goes back to its roots as a silver-mining village tucked away in an isolated valley of the Rocky Mountains.
Step out of Aspen to go to Glenwood Springs and see Thermal Spas, which is approximately 1h 35 min away. Next up on the itinerary: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Maroon Bells, trek along Maroon Lake Scenic Trail, see a world frozen in time at Holden Marolt Mining & Ranching Museum, and cruise along Independence Pass.
