Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
Get a sense of the local culture at The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum and Fort Zachary Taylor. Get outdoors at Scuba & Snorkeling and Dry Tortugas National Park. There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at Truman Little White House, examine the collection at Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum, identify plant and animal life at Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, and pause for some serene contemplation at Saint Mary Star of the Sea.

Newark to Key West is an approximately 5- hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or drive. Traveling from Newark in August, Key West is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 81°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Fri) early enough to take a bus to Marathon.

Marathon, Florida Keys

A tiny city just 16 km (10 mi) long, Marathon is spread across several islands in the middle of the Florida Keys.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Sat): see the interesting displays at Crane Point Museum & Nature Center, kick back and relax at Sombrero Beach, and then kick back and relax at Bahia Honda State Park. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 30th (Sun): contemplate the long history of Indian Key State Historic Site, then take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center.

You can take a bus from Key West to Marathon in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In August in Marathon, expect temperatures between 92°F during the day and 80°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 30th (Sun) so you can go by car to Miami Beach.

Popular historic sites such as Lincoln Road and St Patrick Catholic Church are in your itinerary. Step out of the city life by going to Shark Valley Visitor Center and South Beach. Step out of Miami Beach with an excursion to Aventura Mall in Aventura--about 36 minutes away.
