The only metropolitan hub nestled between three national parks, Fresno makes a surprisingly lively getaway.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Fresno: Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park (Giant Forest, Moro Rock Trail, &more) and Wawona (Wawona Hotel, National Historic Landmark & Pioneer Yosemite History Center). There's much more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Forestiere Underground Gardens, admire the masterpieces at Fresno Art Museum, take in the architecture and atmosphere at St George Greek Orthodox Church, and learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Fresno Chaffee Zoo.

Portland to Fresno is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Portland in December, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Fresno: temperatures range from 58°F by day to 38°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Fri) so you can fly to Portland.

A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Portland: Albany (Albany Regional Museum & The Historic Carousel and Museum), Cannon Beach (Haystack Rock & Ecola State Park) and Multnomah Falls (in Bridal Veil). There's still lots to do: explore the activities along Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, make a trip to Pittock Mansion, examine the collection at Portland Art Museum, and admire the natural beauty at Portland Japanese Garden.
