Montreal, Canada to Lake Placid is an approximately 2.5-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of bus and car; or do a combination of train and taxi. Traveling from Montreal in June, Lake Placid is a bit cooler at night with lows of 9°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Lake George.
