Surrounded by mountain ranges, forests, valleys, beaches, and deserts, the metropolitan area of Los Angeles is home to over 17 million people.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Venice Beach and Boardwalk and Disneyland Park. Step out of the city life by going to Dolphin & Whale Watching and Santa Monica Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Los Angeles: Crystal Cove (in Laguna Beach), Ronald Reagan Presidential Library (in Simi Valley) and Malibu (Zuma Beach & El Matador State Beach). Pack the 12th (Thu) with family-friendly diversions at Universal Studios Hollywood. Have a day of magic on the 14th (Sat) at Disney California Adventure Park. There's still lots to do: stroll through Santa Monica Bay, buy something for everyone on your list at The Grove, Head underground at Bronson Caves, and stop by Amoeba Music.

New York City to Los Angeles is an approximately 9-hour combination of flight and train. You can also drive; or take a train. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Pacific Standard Time (PST), which is usually a -3 hour difference. Expect a bit cooler evenings in Los Angeles when traveling from New York City in July, with lows around 64°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 18th (Wed) to allow time for travel to Seattle.

Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Kids will enjoy Dolphin & Whale Watching and Alki Beach. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and Bloedel Reserve. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Seattle: Snoqualmie Falls (in Snoqualmie) and Chimacum Corner Farmstand (in Chimacum). And it doesn't end there: get a taste of the local shopping with Pike Place Market, indulge in some culinary diversions at a local gastronomic tour, find something for the whole family at Seattle Great Wheel, and enjoy breathtaking views from Sky View Observatory.

You can do a combination of train and flight from Los Angeles to Seattle in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In July, plan for daily highs up to 78°F, and evening lows to 60°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 24th (Tue) to allow time for travel back home.
