Surrounded by mountain ranges, forests, valleys, beaches, and deserts, the metropolitan area of Los Angeles is home to over 17 million people.
Get a sense of the local culture at Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Hollywood Walk of Fame. Do your shopping at Montana Avenue and Amoeba Music. Step out of Los Angeles to go to Manhattan Beach and see Manhattan Beach, which is approximately 38 minutes away. There's much more to do: kick back and relax at Venice Beach and Boardwalk, tour the pleasant surroundings at Cabrillo Beach, contemplate the waterfront views at Santa Monica Bay, and wander the streets of Angelino Heights Historic Area.

Auckland, New Zealand to Los Angeles is an approximately 16-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of flight and train. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 20 hours traveling from Auckland to Los Angeles. Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Chihuly Garden and Glass and Nordstrom. Get a sense of the local culture at Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square. Go for a jaunt from Seattle to Langley to see Whidbey Island Distillery about 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Alki Beach, take in panoramic vistas at Space Needle, see the interesting displays at The Museum of Flight, and look for gifts at Elliott Bay Book Company.

Expect slightly colder temperatures when traveling from Los Angeles in March; daily highs in Seattle reach 15°C and lows reach 6°C.
