Louisville

— 15 nights

Derby City

Kentucky’s largest city, Louisville, is best known as the home of the Kentucky Derby.
Get some historical perspective at Cave Hill Cemetery and Conrad-Caldwell House Museum (Conrad's Castle). Get outdoors at Louisville Mega Cavern and Spring Mill State Park. Change things up with these side-trips from Louisville: Hidden River Cave and American Cave Museum (in Horse Cave), Corydon (Corydon Capitol State Historic Site & O'Bannon Woods State Park) and Cave City (Dinosaur World & Onyx Cave). Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 6th (Sun) at Kentucky Kingdom. There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at Frazier History Museum, walk around Cherokee Park, steep yourself in history at Mary Todd Lincoln House, and go on a hair-raising tour with a ghost and vampire tour.

Expect a daytime high around 77°F in May, and nighttime lows around 58°F.
