Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Portland Museum of Art and Victoria Mansion. Get out of town with these interesting Portland side-trips: Nubble Lighthouse (in York), Kennebunkport (St. Ann's Episcopal Church & Walker's Point) and Ogunquit Beach (in Ogunquit). There's still lots to do: step off the mainland to explore Casco Bay Islands, kick back and relax at Old Orchard Beach, stop by Old Port, and get some fabulous bargains at L.L. Bean Factory Store.
