Florida’s mecca of fun in the sun, the lively tropical metropolis of Miami is one of the world’s top vacation spots.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Everglades National Park and CityPlace. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Lincoln Road and Aventura Mall. Get out of town with these interesting Miami side-trips: John D. MacArthur Beach State Park (in North Palm Beach), Everglades National Park (Shark Valley, Gumbo Limbo Trail, & more) and Homestead Historic Town Hall Museum (in Homestead). Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Head to Royal Street and Frenchmen Streetfor plenty of shopping. Get a sense of the local culture at Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site and French Quarter. Get out of town with these interesting New Orleans side-trips: Whitney Plantation (in Wallace), Nature & Wildlife Tours (in Slidell) and Houmas House Plantation and Gardens (in Darrow). Spend the 11th (Mon) exploring nature at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. And it doesn't end there: brush up on your military savvy at The National WWII Museum, explore the different monuments and memorials at Lafayette Cemetery No.1, don't miss a visit to Jackson Square, and take in the exciting artwork at Jamie Hayes Gallery.
