Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Get some historical perspective at Royal Street and St. Louis Cathedral. Shop till you drop at Frenchmen Street and Boutique du Vampyre. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around New Orleans: Nottoway Plantation (in White Castle), Whitney Plantation (in Wallace) and Baton Rouge (LSU Hilltop Arboretum, Mike the Tiger Habitat, & more). Spend the 4th (Sun) exploring nature at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Shop till you drop at Houston Premium Outlets and Nana's Attic. Popular historic sites such as Washington-on-the-Brazos and Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens are in your itinerary. Explore Houston's surroundings by going to St Francis Wolf Sanctuary (in Montgomery), Surfside Beach (in Surfside Beach) and Texas Star Winery (in Chappell Hill).
