With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.

Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Mon) early enough to travel to Rincon.

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
On the 14th (Tue), enjoy the sea views from El Faro Lighthouse, then take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, then kick back and relax at Crashboat Beach, and finally kick back and relax at Playa Rompe Olas. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: explore the world behind art at Museo de Arte de Aguadilla y del Caribe, kick back and relax at Sandy Beach, then take in the exciting artwork at Playa Oeste Gallery, and finally kick back and relax at Domes Beach.

Do a combination of flight and car from Culebra to Rincon in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight, shuttle, and car; or do a combination of ferry, shuttle, flight, and car. In May, plan for daily highs up to 88°F, and evening lows to 80°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) early enough to drive to Ponce.

Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Start off your visit on the 16th (Thu): admire the landmark architecture of Casa Wiechers-Villaronga, then take an in-depth tour of Museo de Arte de Ponce, and then see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour. On the 17th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: steep yourself in history at Hacienda Buena Vista, then see the interesting displays at El Museo Castillo Serralles, then examine the collection at Parque de Bombas, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Cathedral of our Lady of Guadaloupe.

You can drive from Rincon to Ponce in 1.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of car, flight, and shuttle. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Rincon in May: high temperatures in Ponce hover around 83°F and lows are around 74°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 17th (Fri) so you can travel to Isla de Vieques.

Isla de Vieques

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Secret Beach and La Chiva. Fortin Conde de Mirasol Museum and Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery are good opportunities to explore the local culture. There's still lots to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Sun Bay, visit a coastal fixture at Puerto Ferro Lighthouse, glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and take a leisurely stroll along Malecon.

Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Paseo de la Princesa and Old San Juan. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at San Juan Cemetery and Parroquia Sagrado Corazon de Jesus. Change things up with these side-trips from San Juan: La Mina Falls (in El Yunque National Forest) and Zipline (in Rio Grande).
