Santa Cruz

— 15 nights
Santa Cruz remains synonymous with surfing, but this counterculture bastion offers plenty even if you don't plan to catch any waves.
Relax by the water at Carmel River State Beach and Natural Bridges State Beach. Do some cultural sightseeing at Pacific Grove Oceanview Boulevard and Beauregard Vineyard. Get out of town with these interesting Santa Cruz side-trips: Pacific Grove (Pacific Grove Shoreline Parkway Marine Refuge & Point Pinos Lighthouse), San Juan Bautista (Mission San Juan Bautista & San Juan Bautista State Historic Park) and Bird Rock Vista Point (in Pebble Beach). And it doesn't end there: get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, take a memorable drive along 17-Mile Drive, stroll through Twin Lakes State Beach, and observe the fascinating underwater world at Monterey Bay Aquarium.

For maps, where to stay, photos, and other tourist information, read our Santa Cruz travel website.

In July in Santa Cruz, expect temperatures between 73°F during the day and 55°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
