Tempe, also known as Hayden's Ferry during the territorial times of Arizona, is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, with the Census Bureau reporting a 2010 population of 161,719. Museum-lovers will appreciate Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum and Mesa Arts Center. Step out of the city life by going to Three Mile Wash and McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Venture out of the city with trips to Boyce Thompson Arboretum (in Superior), Casa Grande Ruins National Monument (in Coolidge) and Tonto National Monument (in Roosevelt). Spend the 23rd (Fri) exploring nature at Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge. There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Old Town Scottsdale, look for all kinds of wild species at Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center, brush up on your military savvy at Commemorative Air Force Museum, and see the interesting displays at Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West.
