The gateway to Utah's popular canyon country, Moab sits engulfed in the middle of desert wilderness.
Step off the beaten path and head to Slickrock Bike Trail and Horseback Riding Tours. Escape the urban bustle at Colorado Riverway Recreation Area and The Needles. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Moab: Arches National Park (Turret Arch, Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint, & more). There's lots more to do: explore and take pictures at Road to Needles District, take a memorable drive along La Sal Mountain Loop, tour the pleasant surroundings at Balanced Rock Trail, and look for gifts at Moab Rock Shop.

Columbia to Moab is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone difference moving from Central Standard Time to Mountain Standard Time is minus 1 hour. Expect slightly colder evenings in Moab when traveling from Columbia in September, with lows around 55°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Tue) early enough to go by car to Monument Valley.

You can find hoodoos--rock pillars formed by erosion--all around the world, but those of Bryce Canyon National Park remain the standard bearers thanks to their bright red color, tall stature, and arrangement in large amphitheaters.
Escape the urban bustle at Wall Street and Rainbow Point. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Mossy Cave Trail and Kodachrome Basin State Park. Change things up with a short trip to Coyote Buttes in Big Water (about 1h 25 min away). Spend the 6th (Sat) exploring nature at Peek-A-Boo Loop. There's more to do: hike along Queen's Garden Trail and look for gifts at Ruby's Inn Canyon Rock Shop.

Drive from Monument Valley to Bryce Canyon National Park in 6 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and car. Traveling from Monument Valley in October, things will get a bit cooler in Bryce Canyon National Park: highs are around 61°F and lows about 29°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Cedar City.

Located just outside Zion National Park, Springdale's 600 residents welcome thousands of visitors a year to their tiny town.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Wed): trek along Watchman Trail, stop by Joy Craft & Design, then trek along Zion Rock & Mountain Guides, and finally view the masterpieces at LaFave Gallery.
