Washington DC

— 15 nights
The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Bring the kids along to National Air and Space Museum and National Portrait Gallery. Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Washington DC: Antietam National Battlefield (in Sharpsburg), Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (in Harpers Ferry) and Skyline Drive (in Shenandoah National Park). Next up on the itinerary: appreciate the extensive heritage of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, catch a live performance at Ford's Theatre, brush up on your military savvy at National Museum of the Marine Corps, and expand your understanding of the military at U.S. Naval Academy.

For other places to visit, maps, photos, and more tourist information, you can read our Washington DC tour planner.

In July, plan for daily highs up to 89°F, and evening lows to 73°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
