Germantown is an urbanized census-designated place in Montgomery County, Maryland. Get out of town with these interesting Germantown side-trips: Allsports Grand Prix (in Dulles), National Museum of the Marine Corps (in Triangle) and Shenandoah National Park (Skyline Drive & Old Rag Mountain Hike). On the 8th (Fri), spend a day delving into the history of Antietam National Battlefield. Spend the 9th (Sat) exploring nature at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. There's lots more to do: examine the collection at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, explore the striking landscape of Great Falls Park, take in the natural beauty of Berkeley Springs State Park, and do a tasting at North Gate Vineyard.

To find photos, maps, more things to do, and tourist information, you can read our Germantown holiday planner.

If you are flying in from India, the closest major airports are Washington Dulles International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Andrews Air Force Base. In December, plan for daily highs up to 7°C, and evening lows to -1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
