The largest city on the Mississippi River, Memphis bills itself as both the "Birthplace of Rock" and "Home of the Blues." With such a rich musical heritage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Elvis Presley chose to live in Memphis during his later years.
National Civil Rights Museum - Lorraine Motel and Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Forrest L Wood Crowley's Ridge Nature Center and Crown Winery. Change things up with a short trip to Century Farm Winery in Jackson (about 1h 45 min away). There's much more to do: deepen your understanding at Stax Museum of American Soul Music, admire the masterpieces at Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art, tour the pleasant surroundings at Memphis Zoo, and contemplate the long history of The Peabody Ducks.
