For most people, any mention of Orlando immediately conjures up images of sprawling theme parks filled with characters plucked right out of popular animated movies.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and North Brevard Historical Museum. Do some cultural sightseeing at Stetson Mansion and Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse & Museum. Explore Orlando's surroundings by going to Daytona Beach (Daytona International Speedway & Beach at Daytona Beach), Crystal River (Stand-Up Paddleboarding & Scuba & Snorkeling) and Lighthouse Point Park (in Ponce Inlet). Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
The National WWII Museum and Mardi Gras World are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visit Laura Plantation and French Quarter for their historical value. Venture out of the city with trips to Houmas House Plantation and Gardens (in Darrow) and Oak Alley Plantation (in Vacherie). There's still lots to do: appreciate the extensive heritage of Garden District, make a trip to Jackson Square, explore the world behind art at Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, and explore the different monuments and memorials at Lafayette Cemetery No.1.
