A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Step off the beaten path and head to Ape Cave and Oneonta Gorge. Visit Columbia River Highway and First Presbyterian Church for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Portland side-trips: Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum (in McMinnville), Horsetail Falls- Columbia River Gorge (in Hood River) and Elowah Falls (in Cascade Locks).
