Take a break from New York City with a short trip to Coney Island in Brooklyn, about 30 minutes away. There's lots more to do: go for a walk through Central Park, admire the striking features of Empire State Building, admire the masterpieces at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and make a trip to Statue of Liberty National Monument.

Best known for its 1692 witch trials, Salem has a number of significant historical sites, a bustling downtown, and many witch-themed attractions.
Start off your visit on the 11th (Sun): admire the landmark architecture of Narbonne House, explore the galleries of The House of the Seven Gables, then admire the masterpieces at Peabody Essex Museum, and finally stroll around Salem Witch Trials Memorial. Here are some ideas for day two: stroll the grounds of Old Burying Point Cemetery, take an in-depth tour of Salem Witch Museum, then stop by Crow Haven Corner, and finally see the interesting displays at Gallows Hill Museum/Theatre.

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Get out of town with these interesting Portland side-trips: Rocky Gorge (in Albany), North Conway (Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center & Kancamagus Highway) and Ogunquit (Perkins Cove & Marginal Way Walkway).
