Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
You'll get in some beach time at Seahurst Beach Park and Owen Beach. Get some historical perspective at Pioneer Square and West Point Lighthouse. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Seattle: Bloedel Reserve (in Bainbridge Island), Sequim (B&B Family Farm & Dungeness River Audubon Center) and Tahoma National Cemetery (in Kent). A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Start off your visit on the 6th (Tue): steep yourself in history at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, take in the dramatic natural features at Oneonta Gorge, and then appreciate the history behind Vista House. From its main thoroughfare, Boise greets visitors with a view of downtown framed by the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Kick off your visit on the 8th (Thu): get a taste of the local shopping with Boise Art Glass, take in the spiritual surroundings of St. John's Cathedral, then contemplate the long history of Old Idaho Penitentiary, and finally hike along Boise River Greenbelt. On the 9th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire the landmark architecture of Boise Mormon Temple and then look for all kinds of wild species at World Center For Birds of Prey.
