Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Visit Point Lobos and Breakwater for some beach relaxation. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Del Mar Beach and The Cheese Shop. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at China Cove and Gibson Beach, take a memorable drive along 17-Mile Drive, stop by Trio Carmel, and view the masterpieces at Steven Whyte's Sculpture Studio and Gallery.

Getting from Las Vegas to Carmel by combination of flight and bus takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: drive. Take a break from the city and head to Glacier Point and Elizabeth Lake, Yosemite National Park. Step off the beaten path and head to Tuolumne Meadows and Mono Lake County Park. When in Yosemite National Park, make a side trip to see Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve in Lee Vining, approximately 1 hour away. Expect a bit cooler evenings in Yosemite National Park when traveling from Carmel in September, with lows around 3°C.
