Founded in 1701 by a French explorer and adventurer, Detroit exerted a profound impact on the world for most of the 20th century.
Detroit Institute of Arts and Greenfield Village will appeal to museum buffs. Motown Museum and Edsel & Eleanor Ford House will appeal to history buffs. Venture out of the city with trips to Cranbrook Institute of Science (in Bloomfield Hills), Paint Creek Trail (in Rochester) and Nickels Arcade (in Ann Arbor).
