Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Bring the kids along to Photography Tours and Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. For most visitors to this part of the world, the wild part of Alaska starts at Seward, a small port city that takes advantage of the region's natural beauty.
Bring the kids along to Resurrection Bay and Seward Community Library & Museum. When in Seward, make a side trip to see Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park, approximately Kenai Fjords National Park away. The adventure continues: get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Alaska SeaLife Center, explore the activities along Seward Boat Harbor, see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour, and take an unforgettable tour with a helicopter tour.

Take a bus from Anchorage to Seward in 6 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. Traveling from Anchorage in March, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be somewhat warmer in Seward, with lows of -3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Wed) so you can travel to Fairbanks.

With its strip malls and fast-food restaurants, Fairbanks appears a bit functional on first glance.
Attractions like Nature & Wildlife Tours and Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge make great kid-friendly stops. Step out of Fairbanks to go to Chena Hot Springs and see Chena Hot Springs Resort, which is approximately 1h 20 min away. And it doesn't end there: shop like a local with University of Alaska Museum of the North, don't miss a visit to Alyeska Pipeline Viewing Point, gain insight at University of Alaska Fairbanks, and see the interesting displays at Bouchard's International Dog Mushing and Sled Museum.

You can take a bus from Seward to Fairbanks in 13.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Seward in March, plan for a bit cooler days in Fairbanks, with highs around -5°C, while nights are colder with lows around -22°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Tue) to allow time to travel back home.
