Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Get outdoors at Arapahoe Basin and Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. Get a sense of the local culture at Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center and Dinosaur Ridge. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Denver: Roxborough State Park (in Littleton), Granby Ranch (in Granby) and Glen Haven General Store (in Glen Haven). Next up on the itinerary: ski along the peaceful trails at Cherry Creek State Park, meet the residents at Wild Animal Sanctuary, take in the awesome beauty at Lookout Mountain, and get engrossed in the history at History Colorado Center.
