Lahaina, Maui — 3 nights

Once the booming capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom, the tropical paradise of Lahaina still remains one of Maui's top vacation attractions, providing both culture and recreation.
Visiting Zipline and Ho'okipa Beach Park will get you outdoors. Discover out-of-the-way places like Wailea Beach and Kapalua Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Lahaina side-trips: Maui Tropical Plantation (in Wailuku), Maui Wine, Ulupalakua Vineyards (in Kula) and Makena Beach (in Wailea). And it doesn't end there: have unforgettable encounters with a shark diving experience, kick back and relax at Napili Beach, contemplate the long history of Lahaina Jodo Mission, and examine the collection at Whalers Village Museum.

Detroit to Lahaina is an approximately 12-hour flight. Traveling from Detroit to Lahaina, you'll gain 5 hours due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Detroit in September, expect Lahaina to be somewhat warmer, temps between 86°F and 74°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 26th (Mon) early enough to catch the flight to Honolulu.

Honolulu, Oahu — 6 nights

In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
Get some historical perspective at USS Arizona Memorial and National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Lanikai Beach and Photography Tours. Get out of town with these interesting Honolulu side-trips: Haleiwa (Sunset Beach Park, Stand-Up Paddleboarding, &more), Bellows Field Beach Park (in Waimanalo) and Kailua Beach Park (in Kailua). There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Waikiki Beach, hike along Koko Crater Railway Trail, admire all the interesting features of Ko Olina Lagoons, and take in the dramatic natural features at Halona Blowhole.

Getting from Lahaina to Honolulu by flight takes about 2.5 hours. Expect a daytime high around 88°F in September, and nighttime lows around 76°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Sun) to allow enough time to fly to Koloa.

Hanalei is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kauai County, Hawaii, United States. Escape the urban bustle at Na Pali Coast State Park and Hanalei Valley Lookout. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Hanalei Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Hanalei side-trips: Waimea (Koke'e Mountains & Waipo’o Falls) and Koke`e State Park (in Kekaha).
