Newark to Bend is an approximately 8.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. A town that survives on the sea, Newport's population of just over 10,000 supports a healthy commercial fishing industry.
Get outdoors at Cape Perpetua Visitor Center - Siuslaw National Forest and Thor's Well. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Marine Discovery Tours and Fogarty Creek State Recreation Area. Change things up with a short trip to Taft Bay in Lincoln City (about 34 minutes away). There's lots more to do: grab your bike and head to Mike Miller Park, admire the majestic nature at Yaquina Bay State Recreation Area, stroll through Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center, and explore the striking landscape at Cape Foulweather.

Getting from Bend to Newport by car takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of flight and bus; or take a bus. Traveling from Bend in August, you will find days in Newport are much colder (64°F), and nights are about the same (51°F). Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Astoria.

Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
On the 1st (Wed), appreciate the history behind Seaside Beach Lewis and Clark Monument, tour the pleasant surroundings at Cannon Beach, then enjoy the sand and surf at Haystack Rock, and finally immerse yourself in nature at Ecola State Park. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Newport in August: highs in Astoria hover around 71°F, while lows dip to 55°F.
