Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Chihuly Garden and Glass and U.S. Naval Undersea Museum will appeal to museum buffs. The Museum of Flight and Glasshouse Studio are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore Seattle's surroundings by going to Bloedel Reserve (in Bainbridge Island), Brightwater Center (in Woodinville) and Lake Wilderness Arboretum (in Maple Valley). And it doesn't end there: get a taste of the local shopping with Pike Place Market, enjoy breathtaking views from Space Needle, identify plant and animal life at Predators of the Heart, and kick back and relax at Brackett's Landing South.

Step out of Portland with an excursion to Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Washougal--about 32 minutes away.
