Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Relax by the water at Carmel River State Beach and Point Lobos. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Monterey Bay and McWay Falls. Step out of Carmel with an excursion to Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur--about 1h 05 min away. Spend the 5th (Fri) observing fascinating marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour. There's still lots to do: view the masterpieces at Carmel Art Association and stop by Monterey's Tasty Olive Bar.

You can drive from Fort Bragg to Carmel in 5.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of bus, flight, and shuttle; or do a combination of bus, train, and flight. When traveling from Fort Bragg in July, plan for colder days and about the same nights in Carmel: temperatures range from 24°C by day to 15°C at night.
