Originally built as a base for Vail Ski Resort, the town of Vail has blossomed into its own destination, but still has less than 6,000 permanent residents.
Betty Ford Alpine Gardens has been added to your itinerary. Step out of the city life by going to Colorado River Headwaters Scenic Byway and Vail Recreation Path. Change things up with a short trip to National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum in Leadville (about 54 minutes away). There's much more to do: see what you can catch with a fishing tour, stroll through Booth Falls Trail, fly down the slopes at Vail Mountain Resort, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Beaver Creek Chapel.

Known as a ski resort town, Aspen's history goes back to its roots as a silver-mining village tucked away in an isolated valley of the Rocky Mountains.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Grizzly Lake Trail as well as Maroon Lake Scenic Trail. Escape the urban bustle at Maroon Bells and Hanging Lake Trail. Take a break from Aspen with a short trip to Cooper Corner Gallery in Glenwood Springs, about 1h 25 min away.
