In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Waikiki Beach and Kapiolani Regional Park. Get a sense of the local culture at USS Arizona Memorial and Bishop Museum. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Honolulu: Byodo-In Temple (in Kaneohe) and Kailua Beach Park (in Kailua). There's still lots to do: hike along Diamond Head State Monument, pause for some photo ops at Queen Liliuokalani Statue, get close to the beloved marine mammals with a swim-with-the-dolphins experience, and explore the different monuments and memorials at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

Houston to Honolulu is an approximately 10.5-hour flight. Traveling from Houston to Honolulu, you'll gain 4 hours due to the time zone difference. When traveling from Houston in July, plan for slightly colder days and about the same nights in Honolulu: temperatures range from °F by day to °F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 9th (Tue) to allow time for travel to Hanalei.

Kailua-Kona

Venture out of the city with trips to Kealakekua Bay (in Captain Cook) and Waialea Beach (in Waimea). There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Kanaloa Octopus Farm, get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, kick back and relax at Mauna Kea Beach, and explore the striking landscape of Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park.
