The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Madam's Organ Blues Bar. Step off the beaten path and head to The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Capitol Hill. Get a sense of the local culture at National Air and Space Museum and National Gallery of Art. Explore Washington DC's surroundings by going to Baltimore (Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, Fell's Point, & more), Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (in Harpers Ferry) and Catoctin Creek Distillery (in Purcellville). The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Eisenhower National Historic Site, witness the site of a historic battle at Antietam National Battlefield, get a sense of history and politics at Smithsonian Institution Building, and take a stroll through Old Town.

If you are flying in from Mexico, the closest major airports are Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. In October, plan for daily highs up to 25°C, and evening lows to 14°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
