Founded in 1835, the city of Aiken was named after William Aiken, the president of the South Carolina Railroad. Start off your visit on the 13th (Fri): deepen your understanding at Aiken County Historical Museum, take a peaceful walk through Hitchcock Woods, and then take in nature's colorful creations at Hopelands Gardens. Keep things going the next day: steep yourself in history at Redcliffe Plantation State, then see the interesting displays at Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum, then don't miss a visit to Aiken Center for the Arts, and finally stop by Cyndi's Sweet Shoppe.

Expect a daytime high around 84°F in September, and nighttime lows around 63°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
