Durango

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Fri): see Off-Road Tours, whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, and then take in the exciting artwork at Scenic Aperture Gallery. On your second day here, see the interesting displays at Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum, then look for gifts at Toh-Atin Gallery, then relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, and finally learn about winemaking at Four Leaves Winery.

For where to stay, reviews, other places to visit, and tourist information, use the Durango trip planner.

In June, plan for daily highs up to 85°F, and evening lows to 44°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 20th (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
