Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park contains some of the highest mountains east of the Mississippi River, but it's the ease of access that makes this national park the United States' most visited.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Fri): relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour and then look for all kinds of wild species at Cataloochee Valley. Keep things going the next day: take in the dramatic natural features at Chimney Tops Trail, then get to know the fascinating history of Noah Bud Ogle Cabin, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Roaring Fork.

To find maps and more tourist information, you can read our Great Smoky Mountains National Park trip itinerary site .

If you are flying in from Canada, the closest major airports are McGhee Tyson Airport, Asheville Regional Airport and Tri-Cities Regional TN/VA Airport. In August in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, expect temperatures between 36°C during the day and 23°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
