Death Valley National Park — 19 nights

Hottest, Driest, Lowest

Venture out of the city with trips to Shoshone (Shoshone Museum & Castle in Clay), Gold Point Ghost Town (in Goldfield) and Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge (in Amargosa Valley). On the 10th (Mon), hike the day away at Telescope Peak trail. There's still lots to do: explore the activities along Badwater Basin, get great views at Dante's View, take in the dramatic natural features at Zabriskie Point, and explore the fascinating underground world of Titus Canyon.
