Detroit — 10 nights

Founded in 1701 by a French explorer and adventurer, Detroit exerted a profound impact on the world for most of the 20th century.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Boat Tours & Water Sports. Get outdoors at Maumee Bay State Park and Thomas Edison Parkway Boardwalk. Venture out of the city with trips to Toledo (National Museum of the Great Lakes & Toledo Botanical Garden), Paint Creek Trail (in Rochester) and Stony Creek Metropark (in Shelby Township). Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the long history of Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad, immerse yourself in nature at Algonac State Park, visit a coastal fixture at Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, and tour the pleasant surroundings at The 577 Foundation.

Glacier National Park — 9 nights

The glaciers from which Glacier National Park takes its name mostly dissipated eons ago, but they left behind a scoured landscape of high and steep mountain peaks, sparkling lakes, lush alpine meadows, and thick forests.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Highline Trail and Trail of the Cedars. Visiting Iceberg Lake Trail and Virginia Falls will get you outdoors. There's much more to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Swiftcurrent Falls, hike along Granite Park Trail, get to know the fascinating history of Garden Wall, and take in the dramatic scenery at Baring Falls.
