One of the island of Hawaii's major towns, Hilo contains a mix of Asian and Polynesian cultures and is known for its proximity to a national park encompassing two active volcanoes.
Visiting Akaka Falls State Park and Richardson Beach Park will get you outdoors. Visit Laupahoehoe Beach Park and Kaimu Beach Park for some beach relaxation. Go for a jaunt from Hilo to Volcano to see Jagger Museum about 54 minutes away. There's lots more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Liliuokalani Gardens, admire the sheer force of Rainbow Falls, get outside with Pu'u 'O'o Vent, and stroll the grounds of Alae Cemetery.
