Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
Get some historical perspective at Washington-on-the-Brazos and San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. Step out of the city life by going to Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary and Huntsville State Park. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Houston: Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site (in Anderson), St Martins Catholic Church (in Warrenton) and Schulenburg (St. Mary's Church High Hill & St. John the Baptist Catholic Church). There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, admire the majestic nature at Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary, explore the engaging exhibits at Children's Museum of Houston, and see the interesting displays at Space Center Houston.

On the 13th (Sat), stop by Burris Farm Market, then get engrossed in the history at Poarch Band of Creek Indians Museum, then take in the views from I-65 General W.K. Wilson Jr. Bridge, and finally admire the majestic nature at Historic Blakeley State Park.
