Fewer than 400 people call Keystone home year-round, but the population explodes in summer when crowds flock to nearby Mount Rushmore.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Kick off your visit on the 13th (Mon): see the interesting displays at National Presidential Wax Museum, then trek along Presidential Trail, then pause for some photo ops at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and finally take some stellar pictures from Breezy Point Picnic Area. Here are some ideas for day two: discover the riches below the earth's surface at Big Thunder Gold Mine, look for gifts at Goodtyme Photo, and then get in on the family fun at Rushmore Tramway Adventures.

Although Badlands National Park's name might not be the most inviting, its landscape of pinnacles, eroded buttes, spires, and an expansive, pristine mixed-grass prairie remain enticing.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Badlands National Park: Oglala Lakota College Historical Center (in Kyle), Prairie Homestead (in Philip) and Badlands Petrified Gardens (in Kadoka). There's much more to do: take a memorable drive along Loop Road, stroll through Castle Trail, explore the striking landscape at Badlands Wall, and take some stellar pictures from Yellow Mounds Overlook.

To find more things to do, reviews, traveler tips, and other tourist information, read Badlands National Park journey maker tool .

Getting from Keystone to Badlands National Park by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of taxi and bus. Traveling from Keystone in April, expect nights in Badlands National Park to be about the same, around 30°F, while days are somewhat warmer, around 58°F. You will leave for home on the 2nd (Sat).
