In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
USS Arizona Memorial and USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visiting Waikiki Beach and Kailua Beach Park will get you outdoors. Explore Honolulu's surroundings by going to Kapolei (Scuba & Snorkeling & Ko Olina Lagoons), Turtle Bay Beach (in Kahuku) and Lanikai Beach (in Kailua). There's lots more to do: get to know the fascinating history of Makapuu Lighthouse Trail, appreciate the views at Nu’uanu Pali, trek along Koko Crater Railway Trail, and pause for some photo ops at Pu’u O Mahuka Heiau State Monument.

Stretching over 9.7 km (6 mi) of pristine south Maui coastline, Kihei is the island's driest and sunniest region, making it a perfect location for water activities and beach leisure.

Kailua-Kona, Island of Hawaii — 5 nights

You can drive from Volcano to Kailua-Kona in 2.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In January in Kailua-Kona, expect temperatures between 31°C during the day and 22°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Sat) so you can fly back home.
