Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Royal Street and Garden District. Visiting Nature & Wildlife Tours and St. Joseph Plantation will get you outdoors. Explore New Orleans' surroundings by going to Vacherie (Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site & Oak Alley Plantation). There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Louis Cathedral, examine the collection at Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World, make a trip to Bourbon Street, and learn about all things military at The National WWII Museum.

Get a sense of the local culture at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and American Museum of Natural History. Visit 9/11 Memorial and St. Patrick's Cathedral for their historical value.
