For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Visiting Sun Bay and Caracas Beach will get you outdoors. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Scuba & Snorkeling and Puerto Ferro Lighthouse. And it doesn't end there: tour the pleasant surroundings at La Chiva, stop by Isla Vida, get engrossed in the history at Fortin Conde de Mirasol Museum, and explore the ancient world of El Hombre de Puerto Ferro.

Montreal, Canada to Isla de Vieques is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight, shuttle, and ferry; or do a combination of bus and flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Montreal to Isla de Vieques is 1 hour. Expect somewhat warmer temperatures when traveling from Montreal in August; daily highs in Isla de Vieques reach 36°C and lows reach 30°C. Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Kick off your visit on the 30th (Fri): appreciate the extensive heritage of La Guancha, then see the interesting displays at El Museo Castillo Serralles, then get engrossed in the history at Museo de Arte de Ponce, and finally don't miss a visit to Casa Wiechers-Villaronga.
